ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has directed electricity distribution companies to clearly mention the amount of government subsidy provided to eligible consumers in their monthly electricity bills as part of a new transparency initiative.
According to an official statement issued on Thursday, the move is aimed at ensuring that electricity subsidies are delivered fairly and transparently to deserving consumers.
“The monthly bills of consumers receiving government subsidies will now clearly indicate the exact amount of subsidy provided during that billing month,” a spokesperson for the Power Division said.
The ministry stated that electricity bills would also include a QR code that consumers must scan to complete a registration process through an online system.
Officials clarified that the registration exercise is intended solely to ensure that relief continues to reach poor and low-electricity-consuming households efficiently.
“It should be noted that this does not mean eliminating subsidies in any way,” the statement emphasized.
The ministry reiterated that providing relief to poor and middle-class consumers remains one of the government’s top priorities and that the initiative is designed to ensure fair and efficient utilization of public resources.
Consumers were urged to complete registration through the QR code as soon as possible to ensure uninterrupted continuation of subsidy benefits.
The Power Division further advised consumers facing any billing errors or registration-related issues to contact the helpline numbers of their respective electricity distribution companies for assistance.
“The government remains committed to public convenience and transparency and will continue protecting the rights of poor consumers despite political and economic pressures,” the statement added.
