Petroleum Levy Surpasses Rs1.2 Trillion in Nine Months

ISLAMABAD: The government collected over Rs1.2 trillion from consumers under the petroleum levy during the first nine months of the current fiscal year, while more than Rs35 billion was recovered through the Climate Support Levy (CSL), according to official documents.

Records show that petroleum levy collections remained consistently high throughout the fiscal year. The government collected Rs145 billion in July 2025, Rs115 billion in August, Rs111 billion in September, Rs145 billion in October, Rs151 billion in November, Rs157 billion in December, Rs124 billion in January 2026, Rs120 billion in February, and Rs137 billion in March.

Officials said the Climate Support Levy on petroleum products has so far generated Rs35 billion, with total collections projected to reach Rs51 billion by the close of the fiscal year in June 2026.

Meanwhile, electricity consumers across Pakistan paid more than Rs1.9 trillion in taxes over the last three fiscal years through power distribution companies (DISCOs), official records revealed.

During fiscal year 2022-23, electricity consumers paid Rs507 billion in taxes. The amount increased to Rs698 billion in fiscal year 2023-24 and exceeded Rs700 billion during the last fiscal year.

Among the distribution companies, Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) recorded the highest tax collection, recovering over Rs532 billion during the three-year period. Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) followed with Rs323 billion, while Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) collected Rs307 billion.

Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) recovered Rs240 billion, while Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) collected more than Rs232 billion during the same period.

Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) collected Rs151 billion in taxes, while Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) recovered Rs57.58 billion.

Similarly, Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) collected Rs34.46 billion, Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) recovered Rs24.28 billion, and Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco) collected Rs1.55 billion from electricity consumers over the last three years.
