Islamabad: The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division has issued a public warning to electricity consumers regarding fraudulent schemes involving fake subsidy links and QR codes aimed at stealing personal information.
In an advisory issued on Friday, the Power Division spokesperson said hackers and criminal elements were misleading consumers by claiming to offer government electricity subsidies through suspicious online links and QR codes.
According to the spokesperson, consumers were being asked to click on fraudulent links and provide personal details through a four-step process. Victims were then instructed to enter a six-digit verification code, potentially giving scammers access to sensitive information.
The Power Division clarified that such methods are completely illegal and fraudulent, warning that certain groups are using fake QR codes and deceptive digital platforms for malicious purposes.
Consumers were strongly advised not to share personal or banking information — either online or in written form — for the purpose of obtaining electricity subsidies.
The spokesperson further stated that law enforcement agencies have been informed and are taking action against those involved in the scam.
The ministry urged the public to remain vigilant and verify any subsidy-related information only through official government channels.
