Qatari LNG Cargo Resumes Transit as Petronet-Chartered Tanker Crosses Hormuz Strait

SINGAPORE: A liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker chartered by India’s Petronet LNG has successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz and is heading eastward following the recent peace agreement between the United States and Iran, according to ship-tracking data released on Monday.

The vessel, Disha, loaded its LNG cargo at Qatar’s Ras Laffan export terminal on March 1-2 and had remained west of the strategically important waterway before resuming its voyage.

Data from maritime intelligence firms Kpler and LSEG confirmed the tanker’s transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy shipping route that has faced heightened uncertainty amid recent regional tensions.

Although ship-tracking records did not specify the vessel’s final destination, a source familiar with the shipment said the cargo is expected to be delivered to the Dahej LNG terminal in India, one of the country’s largest gas import facilities.

Petronet LNG did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the shipment.

The tanker’s passage highlights the easing of concerns over energy supply disruptions in the Gulf region following the US-Iran peace deal, which has helped restore confidence in maritime trade through one of the world’s most important energy corridors.
