LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has reiterated her government’s commitment to exploring alternative and renewable energy sources, stating that wind power can play a key role in meeting the province’s future energy needs.
In her message on World Wind Day, she said wind energy represents a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution that must be fully harnessed to meet growing electricity demand while reducing dependence on conventional fuels.
She highlighted that the Thal region in Punjab holds significant potential for wind energy generation and stressed the need to fully utilize available natural resources for clean power production. According to her, World Wind Day serves as an important reminder to move beyond traditional energy models and adopt innovative, sustainable alternatives.
The chief minister also said that opportunities for developing wind power projects through public-private partnerships in Punjab would be actively explored. She emphasized that the government’s broader vision is to ensure a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.
Maryam Nawaz further noted that wind energy not only provides a viable source of electricity but also plays a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the impacts of climate change without harming the environment.
She said raising public awareness about renewable energy potential is essential, adding that the government remains focused on expanding clean energy initiatives as part of its long-term development strategy.
