# FPCCI Warns Prolonged Transport Strike Is Deepening Economic Losses

**KARACHI:** Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Atif Ikram Sheikh has warned that the nationwide transporters’ strike, now in its **10th day**, is causing mounting economic losses and severely disrupting the country’s supply chain.

Sheikh said freight movement at ports had come to a near standstill, leaving imported goods stranded and making it increasingly difficult for exporters to meet delivery deadlines.

The disruption has also triggered shortages of raw materials, forcing some industrial units to **curtail production or temporarily suspend operations**, he said.

According to the FPCCI president, traders and industrialists are facing significant financial losses as demurrage and detention charges continue to accumulate on containers held at ports and terminals.

He warned that delays in export shipments could also damage the credibility of Pakistani exporters and undermine the country’s reputation in international markets.

Sheikh said the strike was affecting a broad section of the economy, including **importers, exporters, traders, manufacturers and consumers**, and urged the government to immediately engage with transporters to resolve their grievances and restore normal operations.

To provide relief to businesses already affected by the disruption, he called on the government, Ministry of Maritime Affairs, port authorities and terminal operators to **waive demurrage and detention charges** incurred as a result of the strike.

“Swift restoration of the supply chain is essential for economic activity to return to normal and to prevent further losses,” Sheikh said.

He stressed that an immediate resolution was necessary to prevent the disruption from spreading further across industries and adding to the financial pressures already faced by the business community.
