# Discos Directed to Install AMI Meters at Government Offices by Deadline
**ISLAMABAD:** The Power Division has directed all electricity distribution companies (Discos) to replace existing electricity meters at **federal and provincial government offices with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters** within the stipulated timeframe.
Secretary Power Division **Dr Fakhar-e-Alam Irfan** issued the directives during a meeting convened to review progress on the installation of AMI meters across government-owned electricity connections.
The meeting was informed that all Discos had begun replacing conventional meters at government premises in line with directives issued by Prime Minister **Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif**.
The initiative is aimed at improving **transparency and accuracy in electricity billing** while addressing longstanding reconciliation issues related to government electricity payments and outstanding liabilities.
During the meeting, it was decided that **90% of government electricity connections would be converted to AMI meters by the end of September 2026**.
The Power Division secretary directed all Disco chief executive officers to take every necessary measure to ensure **100% replacement of government electricity meters with AMI meters within the prescribed timeline**.
He stressed the importance of strict adherence to the implementation schedule and instructed Discos to accelerate the replacement process wherever progress was found to be slower than required.
The AMI rollout is expected to strengthen electricity consumption monitoring, improve billing transparency and provide more accurate data for reconciliation of government electricity accounts.
