Karachi, 5 September 2026: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) continued its commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and environmentally sustainable harbour by collecting 34,650 kilograms of floating marine debris during its weekly clean-up operations conducted from 29 August to 4 September 2026.
The clean-up campaign was carried out by the Marine Pollution Control Department (MPCD), KPT, at key harbour locations including East Wharf, West Wharf, Oil Piers and Boat Basin Jetty.
As part of the systematic operation, 51 boat deployments were carried out, with 159 personnel actively participating in the collection and removal of floating waste from harbour waters.
Following collection, all recovered marine debris was transported to the designated Garbage Transfer Station of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) for appropriate disposal, ensuring that the waste removed from the harbour did not re-enter the marine environment.
The weekly initiative reflects KPT’s sustained efforts to reduce marine pollution, protect marine life and preserve the ecological health of Karachi Harbour. Through regular monitoring, systematic boat deployments and coordinated waste collection, KPT continues to strengthen its environmental stewardship alongside its core maritime operations.
