ISLAMABAD: The federal government has cleared 11,695 pending net-metering applications as part of efforts to facilitate solar consumers and streamline Pakistan’s transition towards a more sustainable power system.
Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari directed the relevant authorities to expedite the verification and resolution of pending cases and ensure that consumers receive transparent updates without relying on agents or intermediaries.
During the transition from the net-metering regime to the net-billing system, 16,654 applications were pending. Following a comprehensive verification and validation exercise, 11,695 applications have so far been cleared and confirmed as compliant with applicable rules and regulations.
The Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) has begun contacting the concerned consumers directly through SMS, WhatsApp and other digital channels regarding the status of their applications and subsequent steps.
Consumers can also check their application status through the official online verification portal at nmverification.pitc.com.pk.
The government has clarified that applicants are not required to pay any fee or make payments to individuals, agents or intermediaries for expedited processing or resolution of their cases. The direct communication mechanism has been introduced to prevent exploitation and ensure that legitimate consumer complaints and applications are handled transparently.
Verification of the remaining 4,959 applications is currently underway. Authorities said each case would be assessed against relevant records, NEPRA clarifications, rules and applicable guidelines to ensure that genuine consumers receive their due rights while fraudulent, illegal or misinformation-based applications are excluded.
The government reiterated that solarisation remains a key pillar of Pakistan’s energy future, stressing that its policy is aimed at supporting renewable energy growth while protecting consumer rights and maintaining a transparent and sustainable electricity system.
