KARACHI: Petroleum dealers have urged the government to establish a clear and timely mechanism for reimbursing the Rs100 per litre fuel subsidy under the PM Special Relief Scheme.
Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) Chairman Malik Khuda Bakhsh welcomed the relief package but warned that dealers cannot afford to absorb the subsidy or wait for prolonged reimbursements.
Under the scheme:
- 🏍️ Motorcycle & auto owners: Rs100/litre relief on 20 litres per month
- 🚗 Vehicles up to 800cc: Rs100/litre relief on 30 litres per month
Dealers said they remain unclear about whether the Petroleum Division, Finance Ministry or State Bank will release the reimbursement and how quickly payments will be made.
PPDA representatives warned that delayed payments could discourage dealers from participating in the scheme and called for direct negotiations with the government.
Meanwhile, IT Minister Shaza Fatima said the issue of sending fuel-subsidy SMS messages from low-balance or preloaded packages had been resolved. The SMS service for the subsidy has been made free of charge.
