KARACHI: Chairman Businessmen Group (BMG) Zubair Motiwala has called upon the newly elected office bearers of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) to translate the strong electoral mandate into tangible results for Karachi’s business community, stressing that greater support also brings greater responsibility, expectations and the need for collective, disciplined and measurable action.
Addressing the 65th Annual General Meeting of KCCI, where Talat Mahmood was announced President, Aslam Pakhali Senior Vice President and Atif Jamil-ur-Rahman Vice President for 2026–28, Motiwala said the election result reflected the collective efforts of KCCI members, markets, industrial associations and the wider business community. He congratulated the outgoing President Muhammad Rehan Hanif, Senior Vice President Muhammad Raza and Vice President Arif Lakhani for their performance and appreciated BMG members, former office bearers and supporters for their dedicated efforts.
Motiwala said the new office bearers must serve everyone approaching KCCI while maintaining the Chamber’s institutional systems and discipline. He stressed that responsibility for performance rested not only with the three office bearers but with the entire Executive Committee and committees’ chairmen, who must collectively pursue unresolved issues relating to FBR, gas, electricity, water, industrial infrastructure and other business difficulties. He called for evidence-based advocacy backed by facts, documented cases and practical examples, and supported BMG Vice Chairman Mian Abrar Ahmed’s proposal for appropriate KCCI representation at policymaking forums, including the Sindh Assembly and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
Vice Chairman BMG Anjum Nisar congratulated the new Office Bearers and urged it to translate election commitments into tangible results, with Karachi’s infrastructure, economic, civic, healthcare and education challenges remaining key priorities. He emphasized sustained efforts and continuity throughout the two-year term to improve conditions for businesses and the wider community.
Vice Chairman BMG Jawed Bilwani said the growing participation of members reflected their strong commitment to KCCI and urged the business community to collectively pursue solutions to Karachi’s infrastructure, traffic and municipal challenges. He stressed that unity, sincerity and sustained advocacy were essential for converting long-standing demands into practical action.
Vice Chairman BMG Mian Abrar Ahmed congratulated the incoming Office Bearers and called for focused efforts to upgrade Karachi’s industrial infrastructure, particularly during the initial phase of the new term. He also proposed pursuing appropriate institutional representation for KCCI at policymaking forums so that the business community’s perspective could be effectively reflected in decisions affecting Karachi and its economy.
Vice Chairman BMG Muhammad Tariq Yousuf said the strong election result reflected BMG’s collective efforts and sustained service to the business community. He appreciated KCCI’s continued engagement with the FBR and other authorities on taxation and customs issues and urged the new Office Bearers to maintain continuity and focus on delivering tangible solutions to genuine business problems.
Newly elected KCCI President Talat Mahmood called for the full support of the Chamber’s membership, saying a united business community would give greater strength to KCCI’s voice. Identifying infrastructure, law and order, traffic, gas and electricity as key challenges, he pledged to work with BMG leadership and relevant authorities to address them, including through a proposed technical mechanism for daily monitoring of traffic congestion. He said giving priority to Karachi’s voice would be a major focus during the first six months, with issues to be followed through until actual action rather than merely assurances.
Talat Mahmood said strengthening KCCI’s engagement with the FBR would remain a key priority, highlighting the regular interaction between FBR officials and the business community as well as the establishment of the PRAL office in Karachi as important facilitation measures. He also pledged particular attention to small traders, called for stakeholder consultation before decisions affecting market timings, and emphasized the need to contain energy-related costs, reduce the cost of doing business, increase exports and facilitate foreign investment. He urged the new Executive Committee to focus on genuine service rather than ceremonial activities and said its performance should be judged by tangible results.
Retiring KCCI President Muhammad Rehan Hanif, in his farewell address, congratulated the incoming Office Bearers and expressed gratitude to BMG leadership, outgoing office bearers, the Executive Committee and KCCI staff for their support during his tenure. Paying special tribute to Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala for his confidence and guidance, Hanif assured the incoming team of his full cooperation and pledged to remain committed to BMG and the Karachi business community, standing with the organization in every good and difficult time.
