Dar Orders Strict Measures to Curb SSGCL’s UFG Losses

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has directed authorities to take strict and targeted measures to reduce the rising Unaccounted-for Gas (UFG) losses of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) and improve the company’s operational and financial position.

Dar chaired a high-level committee meeting on Friday to review the growing UFG losses of SSGCL, during which officials briefed the committee on the company’s operational challenges, financial impact and increasing distribution losses across its network.

The meeting reviewed measures to curb illegal gas connections, upgrade pipeline infrastructure, improve revenue collection and ensure a more stable gas supply for legitimate consumers.

Dar stressed the importance of strengthening energy security in Balochistan while restoring the operational and financial sustainability of SSGCL.

He directed the relevant authorities to formulate a targeted and time-bound strategy to reduce UFG losses, enforce strict protocols, safeguard public resources and ensure uninterrupted facilitation of legitimate consumers.

The committee also emphasised the need for effective enforcement against illegal connections and improved monitoring of the gas distribution network to prevent further losses.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Science and Technology Khalid Hussain Magsi, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, Federal Minister for Public Affairs Unit Rana Mubashar Iqbal, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Interior, Secretary Petroleum, Chief Secretary Balochistan and senior officials from the Ministries of Energy and Foreign Affairs.
