ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Friday chaired a joint meeting of the National Steering Committee on the Fuel Subsidy Scheme and the Committee on Media Management to review implementation progress, beneficiary targeting and public outreach.

The meeting examined the operational status of the targeted fuel subsidy programme, its eligibility and targeting mechanisms, and the implementation strategy. Participants also reviewed the media communication plan to ensure widespread public awareness and smooth access to the relief initiative.

Dar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing targeted fuel assistance to deserving segments of society in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives to maximise relief for ordinary citizens.

He directed the relevant authorities to strengthen coordination among federal ministries and provincial governments, ensure smooth implementation, allocate resources efficiently and launch an effective public awareness campaign.

The deputy prime minister also appreciated the contributions and cooperation of the provincial governments, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) in supporting the scheme.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers responsible for climate change, petroleum, and information technology and telecommunications, along with the Minister of State for Finance, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, and senior officials from provincial governments, AJK, GB and the relevant federal ministries.

The review comes as the government seeks to improve the delivery of targeted fuel relief amid elevated petroleum costs, with intergovernmental coordination and public communication identified as key elements of effective implementation.
