ISLAMABAD: GU GO Motors and China’s Shengtang Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a proposed joint venture to manufacture electric buses in Pakistan, aiming to promote technology transfer, local production and export opportunities.
The agreement was signed at an event in Islamabad marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, who attended the ceremony as chief guest, said Pakistan and China enjoyed a longstanding relationship built on mutual trust and respect. He emphasised that the next phase of bilateral cooperation should focus on industrial investment, technology transfer, manufacturing and export growth.
The proposed joint venture aims to strengthen Pakistan’s domestic manufacturing capabilities, develop local supply chains and explore the production of export-ready vehicles under the “Made in Pakistan” banner.
Mr Khan said electric mobility offered opportunities to expand Pakistan’s industrial base and move towards higher-value manufacturing. He added that collaboration with Chinese companies could help develop local expertise and support the growth of the country’s automotive industry.
The event was attended by around 150 dignitaries and a 14-member Chinese business delegation.
