SNGPL-Office

ISLAMABAD: The Organisation for Advancement and Safeguard of Industrial Sector (OASIS) has urged the government to appoint a technically qualified and commercially experienced professional as managing director of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), stressing that the country’s largest gas utility requires strong engineering expertise alongside financial and managerial skills.

In a proposal submitted to the Ministry of Petroleum, OASIS highlighted the complexity of SNGPL’s extensive transmission and distribution network, major infrastructure projects and critical gas-supply operations.

The organisation recommended that candidates hold a recognised engineering degree in petroleum, gas, chemical, mechanical or another relevant discipline, along with at least 20 years of post-qualification experience in the petroleum, natural gas, energy or pipeline infrastructure sectors.

It further proposed that candidates demonstrate expertise in gas procurement, pipeline operations, transmission and distribution systems, pricing and tariff mechanisms, regulatory requirements and national energy security.

Experience in negotiating international agreements, gas supply contracts and major commercial arrangements with investors, suppliers and development partners should also be considered essential.

OASIS called for candidates to be evaluated on measurable achievements in pipeline expansion, network rehabilitation, capacity enhancement, digitalisation, gas-loss reduction and organisational restructuring. It emphasised that the selection process should prioritise proven project outcomes over generic management credentials.

The organisation maintained that financial discipline was important but should complement, rather than replace, technical competence, operational understanding and commercial judgement.

It said the incoming managing director should focus on ensuring reliable gas supplies, strengthening network safety and capacity, improving consumer services, sustaining the customer base and securing dependable gas supplies at competitive prices.
