The project is being pursued in line with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s energy sector priorities. It includes 82MW of large-scale solar installations, 18MW of solar systems across 499 government buildings, and battery energy storage facilities.

Key preparatory stages of the project have been completed, while four sites have been identified for the large-scale solar installations, paving the way for further progress on implementation.

Meanwhile, a committee constituted by the prime minister is reviewing development-related matters in Gilgit-Baltistan under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning Professor Ahsan Iqbal. The committee is working to formulate practical recommendations aimed at accelerating the region’s development.

The integration of solar power generation with battery energy storage is expected to help address the region’s electricity needs, improve energy reliability and provide a stronger foundation for economic and social development in Gilgit-Baltistan.
