ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday signed a $188 million agreement with the World Bank for environmental protection through forest regeneration and biodiversity conservation programmes and boosting the country’s climate-resilience through enhanced disaster risk management. Under the agreement, the World Bank would join hands with Pakistan and provide funding and technical support for disaster resilience and ecosystem restoration initiatives through more reliable and timely weather forecasting. Demands grow for ‘green industrial revolution’
Greenpeace has joined a growing list of organisations demanding that the UK government puts protecting the environment at the heart of any post-Covid-19 economic stimulus package. The campaign group has produced a detailed “manifesto” with measures to boost clean transport and smart power. The document follows a comparable call from some of Britain’s most powerful business leaders earlier this week. Last week, the prime minister also expressed a similar ambition. Boris Johnson said he wanted to see a “fairer, greener and more resilient global economy” after Covid-19 and that “we…

The division, in its letter sent recently to the OGRA chairperson, warned against the hoarding of petroleum products, saying that OMCs may…
Read MoreBiomass to Gas
Biomass can be converted to gas by biological processes such as anaerobic digestion or gasification, which is a thermochemical process. In anaerobic digestion, biogas is produced from the fermentation of an organic matter or feedstock. Feedstock can be wet organic material such as manure, sewage sludge, industrial effluents, and agricultural and forest residues. Biogas from anaerobic digesters are composed primarily of methane, which can be used as a fuel or chemical feedstock. Gasification is a thermochemical process that occurs when biomass is heated in an oxygen-starved environment (containing approximately 1/3…

Researchers from the Colorado State University believe they have found the world’s cleanest air, located over the Southern Ocean, CNN reported. The team of researchers has said that the atmospheric region over the ocean — which surrounds Antarctica — has not been adversely impacted by human activity. As the quality of air continues to steadily deteriorate due to human activity, scientists and researchers struggle to find pockets across the Earth where the air is unaffected by people. Professor Sonia Kreidenweis and her team from Colorado State University identified one such…
