OGDCL gets new MD for three-year tenure

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet that met here on Tuesday with Prime Minister in the chair approved the Shahid Salim Khan as regular Managing Director of OGDCL for three-year tenure.

Shahid Salim Khan was second in the list proposed on preferences by Board of Directors for Managing Director (MD) of Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL).

Board of Directors had proposed the list of 4 candidates putting the names in order based on preferences, which included Shehryar Lodhi on top of the list, followed Mr Shahid Saleem, Ahsan Khan and Irteza Qureshi as per the preferences worked out by the board, a senior official told The News.

Since 2013, OGDCL remained without formal managing director as Masood Siddiqui was the last regular managing director of the entity who served just for a year and a half and then opted to resign. Now with appointment of Shahid Salim Khan, the entity will be having the new managing director after 7 years.

Shahid Salim Khan, Petroleum Engineer having MS degree with more than 35 years of diversified hands on working experience in various disciplines of E&P industry including HSE, Petroleum Engineering, Drilling, Production Operations (surface and subsurface), G&G, field development, Community Relations and Community Development.

While taking to The News he said that he would emphasise and accelerate the exploration and production activities of OGDCL and will work more to tap the leftover hydrocarbons in those wells and fields which are drained and depleted. He vowed to pursue the policy of putting right person on right job in the entity with the resolve to make it more productive.

Shahid Salim Khan said he is well versed with OGDCL working as he remained its part from 1982 to 1998 and remained part of production department of the OGDCL, In addition he said that he also worked in OGDCL head office, Islamabad. He said that he also remained part of multinational Italian based company ENI for 15-16 years. So he is blend of experience with local and multinational company. He said that he also remained General Manager for three years in Mari oil and gas company.

More importantly, Mr Khan said that he also worked as country director for 7 years for Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) and also worked as Country Manager based in Islamabad. KUFPEC was present in Pakistan for the past over twenty years as joint venture partners in six producing assets which are Qadirpur, Bhit, Badhara, Kadanwari, Zamzama and Zarghun in addition to one non-operated exploration block Sukhpur.
