“Minister Urges Accelerated Progress on Gwadar Power Plant Construction”

(APP) Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal has emphasized the urgent need for swift action on the construction of the Gwadar Power Plant. In a meeting held to review the project’s progress, the minister directed relevant authorities to expedite the work without any delays.

The Gwadar Power Plant, a 300MW coal power project being developed by M/s CIHC Pak Power Company (Pvt) Limited (CPPCL) under the Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB), is crucial for enhancing energy infrastructure and fostering economic development in the region. It is also a priority project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Highlighting the significance of electricity supply in Gwadar, Minister Ahsan Iqbal stressed that any delays in the project would not be tolerated. He urged all stakeholders to address bottlenecks promptly and initiate construction work immediately.

Referring to Gwadar as the gateway of CPEC, the minister underscored the government’s commitment to accelerating phase 2 of CPEC and integrating it with new economic corridors. He mentioned key developments such as the Gwadar Port City, New Gwadar International Airport, and East Bay Expressway, which are poised to transform Gwadar into a thriving maritime trade hub and drive industrialization in Balochistan.

The minister expressed confidence in various CPEC projects in Gwadar, including the Gwadar Power Plant, distribution of boat engines to fishermen, Khuzdar-Panjgur Transmission line, New Gwadar International Airport Project, and the China-Pak Friendship Hospital, envisioning them as pivotal initiatives contributing to regional progress.
