ISLAMABAD: In a landmark achievement for Pakistan’s energy sector, Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-1 (C-1) has set a new national record by operating continuously for 400 days — the longest uninterrupted run in the country’s history.

The milestone was achieved under the expert oversight of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), showcasing the dedication and technical excellence of its scientists, engineers, and technicians. Previously, Chashma Units C-2 and C-4 had each set a record with 365 days of continuous operation.

Currently, PAEC operates six nuclear power plants contributing a total of 3,530 MW to the national grid. Four of these units — C-1 to C-4 — are located near Mianwali, while two others, K-2 and K-3, are situated near Karachi.

The Member (Power) of PAEC praised the team at Chashma Nuclear Power Generation Station (CNPGS) for this exceptional feat, achieved while upholding stringent safety protocols. The National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) also received commendation for maintaining grid stability, which was instrumental in enabling the continuous performance of the plant.

PAEC remains committed to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 — ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy — and continues its legacy of operational excellence that began with KANUPP’s grid connection in 1972.
