COAS Gen Asim Munir Promoted to Field Marshal Rank

Islamabad, May 21, 2025 — In a landmark decision, the federal government has promoted Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal, the highest military rank in Pakistan.

The promotion was approved during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The cabinet recognized Gen Munir’s pivotal role in ensuring national security and demonstrating exceptional strategic leadership during “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.”

The government lauded his “courageous leadership” and “impeccable operational command” that led to the successful defeat of hostile elements and safeguarded Pakistan’s territorial integrity.

This rare elevation underscores the immense trust reposed in General Munir by the civilian leadership and marks a significant moment in Pakistan’s military history. He becomes one of the very few officers in Pakistan’s history to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal.

The Prime Minister hailed Gen Munir as a symbol of resilience, professionalism, and unwavering patriotism, stating, “His leadership has brought pride and security to the nation.”
