ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers across Pakistan—excluding K-Electric (KE) and lifeline users—may see a 10-paisa per unit hike in power tariffs under the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for May 2025.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hold a public hearing on June 30, 2025, at NEPRA Tower, Islamabad, to review the proposed Rs0.1015/kWh increase. The session will also be accessible via Zoom for wider public participation.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G), on behalf of Ex-WAPDA Distribution Companies (XWDISCOs), submitted the proposal, citing a fuel cost of Rs7.4940/kWh for May—slightly above the reference cost of Rs7.3925/kWh.

In May, 12,755 GWh of electricity was generated at a total cost of Rs99.153 billion (Rs7.7739/kWh). After accounting for transmission losses of 355 GWh (2.78%), 12,367 GWh was supplied to DISCOs at a cost of Rs92.676 billion.

Hydropower dominated the energy mix with 37.98% of total generation, followed by RLNG (16.99%), nuclear (15.77%), and local coal (11.08%). Other contributors included imported coal (6.24%), gas (6.92%), and smaller shares from RFO, solar, wind, and bagasse.

NEPRA has invited stakeholders to attend the hearing and submit feedback. If approved, the FCA adjustment will be applicable for one billing cycle only.
