Karachi, July 24, 2025: Federal Minister for Water Resources, Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, visited the Greater Karachi Bulk Water Supply Scheme (K-IV Project) to assess the progress of ongoing development work. He was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary Ms. Rana Ansar, Sindh Energy and Planning Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Nehal Hashmi, and WAPDA Chairman Naveed Asghar Chaudhry. Member Water Syed Ali Akhtar Shah, GM/PD K-IV Amir Mughal, along with representatives of consultants and contractors, were also present.
The Minister inspected key work sites including the intake structure and pumping stations at Keenjhar Lake, a pressurized pipeline to Karachi, and the associated reservoirs and filtration plants.
Briefed by the project team, the Minister was informed that overall physical progress has reached 63%, with Rs. 86.4 billion already utilized. Phase-I, aimed at delivering 260 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to Karachi, is expected to be completed by 2026, subject to timely fund disbursement.
Terming K-IV a top priority, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to its early completion. He emphasized enhanced inter-agency coordination to eliminate implementation hurdles and directed stakeholders to maintain quality standards.
The K-IV Project, being executed in two phases, will ultimately supply 650 MGD of water to Karachi from Keenjhar Lake. Phase-I is being implemented through eight contract packages involving local and international contractors.
