Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State summit in Tianjin, China, on Monday, reaffirmed Pakistan’s respect for the sovereignty and integrity of all SCO members and its neighbours.

Highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and multilateralism, the premier stressed the importance of honouring international and bilateral treaties, indirectly referring to India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. He underscored that uninterrupted access to shared water resources was vital for regional peace and prosperity.

PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s desire for stable relations with neighbours, promotion of regional cooperation, and expansion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a model for connectivity. He also drew attention to Pakistan’s devastating floods, thanking China and the international community for their support.

Condemning terrorism “in all its forms,” the prime minister claimed Pakistan had “irrefutable evidence of foreign involvement” in the Jaffar Express hijacking and other attacks, stressing that the country had sacrificed over 90,000 lives and $152 billion in losses in the fight against terrorism.

He also voiced support for peace in Afghanistan, enhanced regional connectivity, and condemned Israeli aggression in Iran as well as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “Pakistan will always advocate dialogue over confrontation and support a just, two-state solution for Palestine,” he added.
