MILAN: In a landmark move to accelerate Italy’s renewable energy transition, LONGi, the world’s leading solar technology company, and Chiron Energy, one of Italy’s top independent renewable energy producers, have signed a framework agreement for the supply of LONGi’s next-generation Hi-MO 9 photovoltaic modules. The partnership, covering the 2026–2027 period, marks a major milestone in advancing Italy’s clean energy and net-zero carbon ambitions.
Under the agreement, LONGi will supply its high-efficiency bifacial Hi-MO 9 modules for multiple photovoltaic plants strategically located across northern and central Italy. These projects will include both greenfield (new) developments and brownfield (repowering) sites, with the potential to double existing generation capacity in repowering installations. Eligible projects may also benefit from Italy’s CONTO ENERGIA and FER X incentive schemes, further strengthening the nation’s renewable energy portfolio.
The collaboration underscores both companies’ commitment to sustainability and innovation. LONGi’s Hi-MO 9 modules, powered by Hybrid Passivated Back Contact (HPBC) 2.0 technology, eliminate front-side metal grid lines to maximize light absorption, achieving conversion efficiencies up to 24.8%. With superior low-light performance, enhanced reliability, and a 30-year linear degradation warranty, the Hi-MO 9 significantly lowers the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) while increasing long-term yields.
Claudio Gigli, CEO of Chiron Energy, said:
“Partnering with LONGi aligns perfectly with our strategy to deliver technically advanced, high-quality renewable energy projects. Our focus on ESG principles, transparency, and supply chain traceability drives us to collaborate with trusted Tier-1 manufacturers like LONGi, whose Back Contact technology sets new industry standards.”
Stefano Salica, Sales Director Italy at LONGi, noted:
“This agreement with Chiron Energy represents a key milestone for LONGi’s growth in Italy. It highlights our shared vision to drive the green transition through innovation and reliability, reinforcing LONGi’s role as a trusted technology partner for large-scale solar initiatives.”
Francesco Emmolo, General Manager for Italy and Greece at LONGi, added:
“Our partnership with Chiron Energy goes beyond technology supply—it’s about empowering Italy to reduce carbon emissions, stabilize energy costs, and strengthen energy independence. Together, we’re shaping a more resilient and sustainable energy future.”
By combining LONGi’s cutting-edge solar innovation with Chiron Energy’s expertise in renewable infrastructure, this alliance stands as a powerful example of collaboration driving Europe’s green transformation, paving the way for a carbon-neutral and energy-secure Italy.
