OGDC Steps Up Drive to Unlock Unconventional Hydrocarbon Potential

New-Project14

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) is actively evaluating Pakistan’s unconventional hydrocarbon resources as part of its long-term growth strategy, according to MD and CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak in an interview with Reuters. He said the company is expanding its tight gas evaluation footprint, with around 4,500 square kilometers of 3D seismic coverage planned across operated areas to delineate key horizons and unlock existing resource potential.

OGDC has also lined up a series of shale gas exploratory wells—both vertical and horizontal—with five to six pilot projects targeted for 2026–27. These pilots aim to establish sustainable flow rates and validate the commercial viability of scalable shale development.

Together, these initiatives form a cornerstone of OGDC’s five-year strategy, designed to reshape its production profile and drive long-term growth through a balanced focus on unconventional and conventional resources.
