Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has successfully commissioned the Faiz X-1 Deep (Basal Sand) well in Sanghar after the project remained undeveloped for more than a decade due to infrastructure constraints.
The leading oil and gas exploration and production company disclosed the development in a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.
“We, the operator of Gambat South Block, are pleased to announce the successful commissioning of Faiz X-1 Deep (Basal Sand) well,” the company stated.
According to PPL, the well was originally drilled in 2014, but the absence of nearby pipeline infrastructure at the time made the project commercially unviable and delayed its development for years.
The company explained that after establishing connectivity with nearby wells and conducting a comprehensive technical and economic re-evaluation, the Basal Sand interval was declared commercially feasible.
PPL subsequently carried out well intervention activities and developed the required surface infrastructure to bring the well into production.
The commissioning work included isolation of deeper intervals, execution of well intervention operations, installation of surface facilities, and construction of approximately 4.5 kilometres of feeder pipeline to connect the well with the existing gas gathering network for onward transmission to the Gambat South Gas Processing Facilities.
The company informed investors that the well was formally commissioned on February 25, 2026, with production gradually ramped up following operational optimisation.
“It is currently producing approximately 3.6 MMscfd of gas and 750 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate following optimisation of operational parameters,” the notice added.
As one of Pakistan’s largest exploration and production companies, PPL plays a significant role in the country’s energy sector through the exploration, development, and production of oil and natural gas resources aimed at supporting domestic energy needs.
