KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan on Wednesday confirmed the receipt of approximately $1.3 billion from the International Monetary Fund under Pakistan’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) programmes.

In a statement, the central bank said the inflow would be reflected in the country’s foreign exchange reserves for the week ending May 15, 2026.

Last week, the IMF Executive Board approved Pakistan’s third review under the 37-month EFF arrangement and the second review under the RSF programme during a meeting held in Washington, DC on May 9.

The approval enabled the immediate disbursement of around $1.1 billion (SDR 760 million) under the EFF and approximately $220 million (SDR 154 million) under the RSF arrangement.

With the latest tranche, Pakistan’s total disbursements under the two IMF programmes have reached nearly $4.8 billion (SDR 3.348 billion).

The development follows a staff-level agreement reached on March 27 between IMF officials, led by Mission Chief Iva Petrova, and Pakistani authorities after extensive policy discussions held in Karachi and Islamabad between February 25 and March 2, followed by virtual engagements.

Pakistan’s current 37-month EFF programme was approved by the IMF on September 25, 2024, with the objective of strengthening economic resilience, stabilising the economy, and supporting sustainable long-term growth.
