LAHORE: Consumers in Punjab using up to 200 units of electricity per month will now be required to complete a digital verification process to continue receiving government electricity subsidy, under a new initiative aimed at improving transparency and preventing misuse of the relief system.
According to officials, the Power Division has decided to include a QR code on electricity bills, making it mandatory for consumers to verify their personal and billing details digitally. The move is intended to ensure that subsidies are only extended to genuinely eligible households.
Authorities said the new system will help identify cases where multiple meters are being used within a single household to illegally benefit from repeated subsidies. They warned that failure to complete timely verification could result in disruption or withdrawal of subsidy benefits.
Under the simplified process, domestic consumers using between zero and 200 units per month can scan the QR code printed on their electricity bill using a smartphone camera or any QR scanner application.
Once scanned, users will be redirected to the government’s official “Cross Subsidy Program Registration Portal (CSSP ITC Portal).” There, consumers will be required to enter their 14-digit reference number along with their national identity card (CNIC) number.
After submission, a one-time password (OTP) will be sent to the registered mobile number to complete the verification process.
Power Division officials said the registration and verification process will remain continuous to ensure that government relief is accurately targeted to deserving households only.
Consumers have been advised to ensure that the name on their electricity bill matches their CNIC details to avoid delays or issues during verification.
In case of difficulty scanning the QR code, users can also complete their registration directly through the official cross-subsidy program web portal by entering their details online to retain their electricity subsidy.
