KARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Folio3, a US-based artificial intelligence technology company with a global delivery network, to explore the use of AI in enhancing efficiency across upstream oil and gas operations.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, the MoU was signed by PPL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Pakistan Petroleum Limited Mohammad Khalid Rehman and Folio3 Chief Executive Officer Adnan Lawai at PPL’s head office on June 9.
Senior officials including Brigadier (retd) Ajaz Ahmad Khan were also present at the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, both organisations will jointly examine potential applications of artificial intelligence across key upstream functions such as drilling optimisation, exploration activities, predictive maintenance, and enterprise operations.
The collaboration aims to leverage Folio3’s AI expertise to improve operational efficiency, support data-driven decision-making, and accelerate the adoption of advanced digital technologies in Pakistan’s energy sector.
PPL said the initiative aligns with its broader strategy to modernise operations and contribute towards a more efficient, technology-driven, and sustainable energy future for the country.
The partnership reflects a growing trend in the oil and gas industry toward digital transformation, as companies increasingly adopt artificial intelligence and data analytics to optimise production, reduce downtime, and enhance resource management.
