KARACHI: JCM Power has announced that its 240 MW Dhabeji Hybrid Renewable Energy Project has secured major regulatory approvals, including the issuance of its generation licence and tariff approval, paving the way for Pakistan’s first utility-scale hybrid wind and solar power project.
The company said the project marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s clean energy transition and is now one step closer to implementation.
The Dhabeji Hybrid Project is the country’s first competitively bid renewable energy project and has established a new benchmark by achieving the lowest renewable energy tariff ever approved in Pakistan at PKR 8.9189 per kWh. The tariff was discovered through an open and transparent competitive bidding process conducted without a benchmark price, demonstrating the viability of least-cost renewable energy procurement.
According to JCM Power, the project comes at a crucial time as Pakistan seeks to reduce its circular debt, diversify its energy mix, and lessen dependence on imported fossil fuels. The company said the project highlights how competitive procurement can deliver affordable, reliable, and clean electricity for consumers while supporting the country’s long-term energy security and sustainability goals.
JCM Power acknowledged the support of the Government of Pakistan, the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), and K-Electric for their leadership in successfully conducting Pakistan’s first competitive renewable energy bidding process. The company said the transparent and least-cost procurement framework has established a new standard for future renewable energy development in the country.
