LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain has described the electric vehicle (EV) industry as the future of Pakistan, emphasizing that the Punjab government is actively promoting the sector under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Speaking as the chief guest at the launch ceremony of a locally manufactured electric motorcycle, jointly developed by China’s X-Free Energy Technology Group and Pakistan’s Creative Group, the minister said the provincial government has made the growth of the EV industry one of its top priorities.
During the ceremony, held at a local hotel on Saturday, Shafay Hussain formally inaugurated the electric bikes and reviewed their features. The event was attended by Mr. Zhen Shuen, Vice President of X-Free Energy Technology Group; Mian Sultan of Creative Group; Muhammad Bakhtiar Faiq, CEO of OSCD; Dr. Imran Hashmi, Director of the Punjab Investment Board; and other distinguished guests.
As part of the pilot phase, 2,500 electric motorcycles have already been manufactured locally.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Zhen Shuen said the company’s current production capacity stands at 100,000 electric bikes annually, with plans to increase it to 150,000 units per year. He also announced that the company intends to supply 20,000 electric motorcycles to the Punjab government through the upcoming tendering process.
He further revealed that X-Free Energy Technology Group, in collaboration with Pakistani investors, plans to establish local manufacturing of electric rickshaws on a permanent basis.
Highlighting investment opportunities, Minister Shafay said this is the ideal time to invest in EV charging infrastructure in Punjab, urging both local and international investors to capitalize on the sector’s growing potential.
He noted that several EV assembly plants have already been established across Punjab, while additional Chinese companies are expressing interest in investing in Pakistan’s expanding electric mobility market.
The minister added that wider adoption of electric vehicles would play a significant role in reducing environmental pollution and promoting sustainable transportation. He also pointed to the successful operation of eco-friendly green buses in various cities across the province as evidence of the government’s commitment to clean mobility.
Concluding his remarks, Shafay Hussain welcomed the partnership between Pakistan’s Creative Group and China’s X-Free Energy Technology Group, congratulating both organizations on their joint venture and expressing confidence that it would contribute to the country’s transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable transportation sector.
