**KARACHI:** Mari Energies Limited (formerly Mari Petroleum Company Limited) has awarded a contract to **Universal Gas Distribution Company (Pvt) Ltd** for the sale of up to **17.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd)** of natural gas from the **Spinwam Gas Discovery**.
The company announced the development in a notice to the **Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX)**, stating that the contract was awarded through a **Letter of Award (LoA)** following a competitive bidding process initiated on **May 15, 2026**.
Mari Energies said both parties will now seek the necessary regulatory and other approvals in accordance with the **Framework for Sale of Gas to Third Parties**, notified under **S.R.O. 11(I)/2025** dated **January 7, 2025**.
A Letter of Award, also known as a Notification of Award (NoA), is issued to the successful bidder after acceptance of its bid. It formally confirms the award of the contract and requires the successful party to provide performance and environmental and social performance securities within the prescribed timeframe. Failure to execute the agreement may result in the forfeiture of the bid bond.
The company also noted that it is the **operator of the Waziristan Block**, holding a **55% working interest** in the joint venture. Its partners include **Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL)** with a **35% stake** and **Orient Petroleum Inc.** with the remaining **10% working interest**.
Mari Energies is Pakistan’s **second-largest natural gas producer** and one of the country’s leading integrated exploration and production (E&P) companies. The company has maintained an exploration success rate of approximately **70%**, significantly exceeding the industry averages of around **30% in Pakistan** and **14% globally**.
The company also operates Pakistan’s largest gas reservoir, the **Mari Gas Field** in **Daharki, Sindh**, which remains a key contributor to the country’s natural gas supply.
