# Sindh Government Approves 7.05% Increase in Karachi Water, Sewerage Charges

**KARACHI:** The Sindh government has approved a **7.05 per cent increase in water and sewerage charges** of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) for the financial year 2026-27, with the revised tariffs taking effect retrospectively from **July 1, 2026**.

According to an official notification published in the **Sindh Government Gazette on August 10**, the tariff adjustment has been made on the basis of the average Consumer Price Index (CPI). The notification formally incorporates a decision of the KWSC Board approving the increase for both retail and bulk consumers.

Under the revised tariff structure, monthly water and sewerage charges for residential properties will be calculated according to plot size. Fixed monthly charges have also been revised for different categories of commercial consumers, including business centres, shops and other commercial properties.

The new rates apply across the residential, commercial and other consumer categories covered under the corporation’s tariff schedule.

The KWSC said the tariff adjustment is intended to **strengthen its revenue base and improve its financial capacity** to provide sustainable water supply services while maintaining, repairing and rehabilitating Karachi’s sewerage infrastructure.

The corporation said additional financial resources were required to meet the needs of the city’s growing population and maintain essential civic services.

The tariff increase comes as Karachi continues to face persistent challenges related to **water availability, ageing sewerage infrastructure and deteriorating civic systems**. The KWSC has linked the revision to efforts to improve service delivery and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the city’s water and sewerage operations.

The revised tariffs will remain applicable for the **2026-27 financial year**, effective from July 1, 2026.
