KARACHI, June 17, 2025 — Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah announced on Monday that the provincial government has allocated Rs25 billion in the new budget to reduce electricity costs through widespread solarisation, aiming to provide relief to low-income and underprivileged households.
Shah credited Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman and the Chief Minister for championing the initiative, saying it reflects the party’s vision of ensuring affordable and even free electricity where possible. The Energy Department, he noted, is actively working to distribute solar panels and implement solar energy solutions across Sindh.
“This move will help reduce the burden of rising electricity costs on the common people,” he said, adding that several public welfare schemes will be executed under block budget allocations included in the fiscal plan.
Shah also addressed political developments, asserting that the Sindh government holds a clear majority in the provincial assembly and does not require support from any other party to pass the budget. He criticised the opposition’s disruptive conduct during the budget speech, calling it a violation of agreed protocols.
“They crossed all boundaries by physically obstructing the CM’s dais,” he said, referring to opposition leader Ali Khurshidi’s confrontation with PPP leader Faryal Talpur, which Shah described as “inappropriate and based on false claims.”
He reaffirmed the PPP’s commitment to equitable development across Sindh, highlighting that Karachi is now receiving special focus in upcoming projects.
On international affairs, Shah condemned war but acknowledged the recent damage to Israeli military installations, stating that “Muslims worldwide have welcomed the blow to Israeli aggression.”
