ISLAMABAD:
The government has taken a major step toward promoting clean transportation by advancing the National Electric Vehicle (NEV) Policy with a proposed subsidy package of Rs100 billion. The announcement was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production.
The meeting, attended by representatives of the Pakistan Banking Association and top insurance firms, focused on the framework and financial mechanisms to support the shift to electric vehicles.
Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasized that the substantial subsidy reflects Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s commitment to public welfare and environmental protection. He noted that the NEV Policy aims to combat smog and air pollution while reducing Pakistan’s heavy reliance on costly oil imports.
“The successful implementation of this policy will lead us to a smog-free, pollution-free, and prosperous Pakistan,” said the SAPM. He further announced the government’s plan to establish a nationwide network of electric vehicle charging stations to facilitate the transition to sustainable mobility.
