Major Power Tariff Reduction Announce for Industrial and Agricultural Sectors

Awais-Leghari

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs for the industrial and agricultural sectors, aimed at boosting economic growth and supporting key productive areas of the economy.

In his video message, the minister revealed that the country currently has 7,000 megawatts of surplus electricity, and the government has decided to allocate this additional power to the industrial and agricultural sectors, which he described as the backbone of the national economy.

He stated that the power tariff for additional units consumed by industries has been reduced from Rs 34 to Rs 22.98 per unit, while the tariff for the agricultural sector has been slashed from Rs 38 to Rs 22.98 per unit.

“This measure will help reduce the average cost of electricity for consumers. Both industrial and agricultural users will now be able to utilize additional electricity at significantly lower rates,” Leghari said.

Explaining the impact, he noted that if a farmer previously used 100 units and now consumes an additional 100 units, the average electricity cost will decrease by Rs 7 per unit. Similarly, for industrial users, consuming an additional 1,000 units will reduce the average electricity cost by around Rs 5 per unit.

The minister emphasized that the government had already taken steps to cut electricity prices for industries, and this further reduction will enhance industrial competitiveness and productivity.

“We are fulfilling the promises made to the people,” Leghari added, expressing hope that this initiative will bring stability and improvement in the national economy.
