LPG Prices Hiked by Nearly 4pc for December

OGRA-GAS

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) on Monday announced a 3.7 per cent increase in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), raising the cost of an 11.8kg domestic cylinder by Rs87.21 for December to reflect higher international market rates.

According to the notification, the maximum sale price of LPG has been set at Rs209 per kg for December, up from Rs201.6 per kg in November — an increase of Rs7.4 per kg. However, retail prices remain significantly higher, with LPG selling for Rs300–315 per kg in various parts of the country due to weak enforcement measures.

As a result, the official consumer-end price of an 11.8kg domestic cylinder has risen to Rs2,466.10 this month, compared to Rs2,378.90 in November. Similarly, the price of a 45.4kg commercial cylinder has been increased by Rs336 to Rs9,488.6 for December.

Ogra’s calculation shows the producer price of LPG (40pc propane, 60pc butane) at Rs137,442.82 per tonne for December, up from Rs131,178 per tonne in November. After including excise duty, petroleum levy, general sales tax, and various margins — marketing, distribution, and transportation — the maximum consumer price stands at Rs208,991.40 per tonne or Rs2,466.10 per domestic cylinder.

The regulator noted that LPG prices are tied to the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP) and fluctuations in the US dollar exchange rate. For December, the Aramco-CP rose by 4.93pc while the average dollar rate dipped slightly by 0.15pc, resulting in a net consumer price increase of 3.66pc.

These revised LPG prices will remain applicable until December 31.
