New-IAEA

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development for Pakistan’s healthcare and nuclear medicine sector, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has designated the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (INMOL), Lahore, as an IAEA Collaborating Centre, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Tuesday.

The designation was formalized during a special ceremony held at the United Nations Office at Vienna, where Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar signed the “Collaborating Centre Agreement” on behalf of INMOL with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.

Following the signing, the IAEA chief presented a commemorative plaque officially recognizing INMOL as an IAEA Collaborating Centre. The ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The recognition underscores Pakistan’s growing role in nuclear medicine, cancer diagnosis, and treatment, while strengthening cooperation between the IAEA and national institutions in advancing peaceful applications of nuclear technology.
