ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has signed a landmark agreement with French specialty chemicals leader SNF to deploy advanced Water Injection Systems (WIS) at the Kunnar and Pasakhi oil fields in Sindh, a project projected to generate an estimated $460 million in additional revenue.
The agreement, signed at OGDC headquarters in Islamabad, was witnessed by Minister for Energy (Petroleum Division) Ali Pervaiz Malik, OGDC Managing Director/CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak, and French Ambassador Nicolas Galey.
The initiative aims to enhance reservoir pressure, improve oil and gas recovery rates, and ensure sustainable long-term production through world-class water injection technology.
Implementation will be carried out in three phases: a nine-month installation and commissioning period, followed by two years of operations and maintenance during which SNF will train OGDC personnel, and finally, full transfer of technology to OGDC. The system has been designed for a 20-year operational lifespan.
The project is expected to increase oil production by approximately 9 million barrels and gas output by 3 billion cubic feet, raising the recovery factor of the fields by 8–10 percent. In addition to economic gains, reinjecting treated produced water into reservoirs will support environmental sustainability and align with global best practices in resource management.
