Islamabad: In a major boost for renewable energy adoption in Pakistan, Federal Minister for Power Sardar Owais Leghari has announced a decisive move to process all net metering applications submitted up to February 8 under the existing regulations.
This landmark decision ensures that all applicants will now receive net metering facilities across all distribution companies, including K-Electric, removing previous uncertainties and delays in the system. Immediate implementation orders have been issued to all distribution companies to guarantee swift action.
Currently, 5,165 applications are pending, which will collectively add 250.822 MW of clean energy to the national grid. The Minister emphasized transparency in processing, underlining the government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and consumer convenience.
Experts say this decision is set to accelerate Pakistan’s solar and clean energy transition, enabling households and businesses to actively contribute to a sustainable energy future while reducing electricity costs.
With this move, the Ministry of Power has sent a strong signal to the market that net metering is here to stay, reinforcing confidence among investors, consumers, and energy stakeholders alike.
