ISLAMABAD: Germany has proposed a new climate information initiative aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s data management systems and promoting evidence-based climate decision-making during a high-level meeting in Islamabad.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting between German Ambassador to Pakistan Ina Lepel and Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Musadik Malik.
According to an official statement, the ambassador highlighted ongoing cooperation between Germany and Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change, particularly through GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit). Current collaboration focuses on climate adaptation and resilience, emission reduction strategies, institutional capacity building, green initiatives, and pilot projects designed to strengthen Pakistan’s climate response.
Ambassador Lepel also briefed the minister on a proposed project titled CISTA (Integrated Climate Information Services Value Chains for Transformative Climate Action). Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, the initiative aims to establish integrated climate services, improve climate data systems, and enhance the value chain of climate information to support transformative action.
The proposed project is expected to bolster Pakistan’s ability to generate, manage, and utilise climate data more effectively, supporting informed policymaking and long-term resilience planning in the face of growing climate challenges.
