ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association has warned of a possible nationwide closure of petrol pumps if its demands remain unaddressed, raising concerns over a potential fuel crisis in the country.

The association has formally approached Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, seeking an urgent meeting to discuss the issues faced by the sector. In its letter, the association noted that a similar request was submitted on March 6 but did not receive any response.

According to the association, the petroleum retail sector is grappling with multiple challenges, including operational difficulties, financial pressures, pricing concerns, and abrupt policy changes. It stressed the need for the government to involve industry stakeholders in the policy-making process to ensure sustainable solutions.

Representing approximately 14,000 to 15,000 petrol pump owners nationwide, the association emphasized that the issues require immediate attention. It cautioned that failure to address these concerns could force petrol pump owners to shut down operations across the country.

The association further warned that any such shutdown could trigger a severe fuel shortage, disrupting transportation and economic activity. It added that responsibility for any ensuing crisis would rest with the Ministry of Petroleum.
