ISLAMABAD: The federal capital has been placed on high alert in anticipation of key peace talks between the United States and Iran, with over 10,000 security personnel deployed across the city to ensure the safety of visiting delegates.

According to sources, a comprehensive, multi-layered security plan is being overseen by the military, with support from paramilitary forces including Rangers, as well as Islamabad and Punjab police. The Islamabad Traffic Police and National Highway and Motorways Police have also been mobilised to maintain smooth traffic flow.

The deployment includes approximately 6,000 Islamabad police personnel, 900 Frontier Constabulary officials, and 3,000 Punjab Constabulary personnel, alongside Rangers and Pakistan Army troops. Additionally, around 1,000 traffic police officers are on duty.

Security forces have secured the Red Zone and other high-security areas, with troops stationed at key government buildings and in the Margalla Hills. Entry to the Red Zone has been restricted, with only authorised individuals permitted access via Margalla Road.

Dedicated routes have been established for the movement of delegates from the airport to their accommodations, with strict “Blue Book” protocol in place. Close protection teams assigned to VVIPs have been barred from carrying gadgets, including mobile phones and digital watches.

Authorities have also ensured emergency preparedness, with arrangements for fire brigade services, ambulances, lighting, and road maintenance in place.

Meanwhile, major roads including Faisal Avenue up to Zero Point and the Expressway up to Koral Chowk have been closed, with traffic diversions implemented across the city. Motorists have been advised to use alternate routes to minimise inconvenience during the high-level diplomatic engagement.
