ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkmenistan have agreed to enhance cooperation in regional energy connectivity, trade corridors, and infrastructure development as Islamabad seeks to strengthen its position as a key trade and transit gateway linking Central Asia with global markets through its seaports.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Atadjan Movlamov on Tuesday.

According to an official statement, the discussions focused on bilateral trade enhancement, regional connectivity, energy cooperation, and strengthening institutional engagement between the two countries.

Both sides exchanged views on the growing significance of regional trade corridors, logistics cooperation, and commercial connectivity between Pakistan and Central Asian states. Talks also covered measures to facilitate smoother movement of goods, expand trade routes, and improve direct interaction between the business communities of both countries.

Jam Kamal Khan highlighted Pakistan’s strategic geographic location, describing the country as a natural gateway connecting Central Asia to regional and international markets through Pakistani seaports.

He noted that evolving regional dynamics and changing global supply chain patterns had further increased the importance of Pakistan’s logistics and connectivity potential.

The commerce minister emphasised that stronger economic integration, efficient transportation networks, and enhanced business-to-business engagement could unlock significant trade and investment opportunities for both nations.

He also stressed the need for organising business forums, trade exhibitions, and institutional interactions between chambers of commerce to strengthen private-sector collaboration.

Ambassador Atadjan Movlamov appreciated Pakistan’s positive approach toward regional trade facilitation and connectivity initiatives and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to expanding bilateral economic ties and improving commercial and transport linkages with Pakistan.

The two sides also discussed prospects for cooperation in the energy sector, including regional energy connectivity projects and future infrastructure collaboration aimed at promoting long-term economic integration and regional stability.

The meeting reviewed various areas of mutual economic interest and underscored the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement, institutional coordination, and high-level exchanges to further deepen Pakistan-Turkmenistan relations.

Both countries expressed confidence that enhanced collaboration in trade, energy, logistics, and private-sector engagement would open new avenues for economic partnership and regional connectivity.
