ISLAMABAD: Cherat Packaging Limited (CPPL) has commissioned a 2.7-megawatt solar power plant at its manufacturing facility in Gadoon Amazai, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a notification submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Wednesday.
The company stated that this new installation is in addition to its previously operational 1MW solar power system at the same site, further expanding its renewable energy footprint.
CPPL said the new solar facility will help reduce operational energy costs while contributing to environmental sustainability through the use of clean and renewable energy sources.
Incorporated in 1989 as a public limited company, Cherat Packaging is engaged in the production and sale of paper sacks, polypropylene bags, and flexible packaging materials. The company has an annual production capacity of approximately 265 million paper bags and 195 million polypropylene bags, making it one of the largest suppliers of packaging materials to Pakistan’s cement industry. It also supplies packaging solutions to the sugar, chemicals, and other allied sectors.
Pakistan has been witnessing a growing shift toward alternative energy, particularly solar power, which has gained significant traction among both industrial and residential consumers due to rising energy costs and energy security concerns.
Industry studies suggest that the expansion of solar energy adoption since 2018 has helped reduce reliance on imported fuels, with estimates indicating multi-billion-dollar savings in oil and gas import bills. Analysts project further savings in the coming years as renewable energy penetration continues to rise.
