MACAO: Chairman WAPDA, Lt Gen Muhammad Saeed (Retd), has highlighted Pakistan’s immense potential as an attractive destination for infrastructure investment, emphasizing the country’s strategic location, growing development portfolio, and strong international partnerships, particularly with China.

Leading a three-member delegation, the WAPDA Chairman represented Pakistan at the 17th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) held in Macao Special Administrative Region. The three-day event is jointly organized by the China International Contractors Association and the Macao Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute.

Established in 2010, the IIICF has emerged as a key international platform for governments, financial institutions, engineering firms, consultants, and equipment manufacturers to exchange ideas, explore investment opportunities, and strengthen cooperation in infrastructure development. This year’s forum brought together more than 3,000 delegates from over 70 countries, including senior executives from Fortune Global 500 companies and leading representatives of international financial and engineering organizations.

Addressing the inaugural session, Chairman WAPDA outlined the vast investment opportunities available in Pakistan’s water and power sectors. He stressed that the international community and regional stakeholders should prioritize connectivity and shared infrastructure development over conflict-driven geopolitical rivalries.

Referring to Pakistan’s strategic importance and major ongoing development projects, including the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, Dasu Hydropower Project, and Mohmand Dam, he noted that Pakistan’s young population, geographic position, and strong ties with key global partners make it a highly attractive market for infrastructure investment.

The Chairman also underscored the importance of regional stability and cooperation, stating that all nations must respect internationally recognized bilateral treaties governing shared water resources. He emphasized that the region cannot afford additional conflicts and that sustainable development and mutual cooperation are essential for long-term prosperity.

His remarks highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to advancing large-scale water and energy infrastructure projects while fostering international partnerships to support economic growth, energy security, and regional connectivity.
