Government says upcoming battery storage policy will promote local EV manufacturing, charging infrastructure, technology transfer and foreign investment
StarCharge, StarCharge Energy Pakistan and Bahum Global Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday to support the development of Pakistan’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan witnessed the signing and said the government was working to accelerate the shift towards electric mobility.
He said the forthcoming Battery Energy Storage System Policy would support local manufacturing, attract foreign investment and help establish a sustainable industrial base for electric vehicles.
Khan said wider adoption of EVs could reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported petroleum products, lower the import bill and strengthen energy security while supporting environmental sustainability.
He added that the government was facilitating the expansion of EV charging infrastructure to make electric transport more accessible and convenient for consumers.
The SAPM said partnerships with Chinese companies could support the local production of EV batteries, technology transfer, employment generation and stronger domestic industrial capabilities.
He said Pakistan and China were expanding cooperation in advanced manufacturing and clean energy technologies, which would help improve Pakistan’s long-term industrial competitiveness.
Khan reiterated that the government wanted to create a business-friendly environment for innovation, investment and value-added manufacturing.
He said the prime minister’s vision was to turn Pakistan into a regional manufacturing hub by supporting industries that generate jobs, increase exports and promote technological development.
The ceremony was attended by Secretary for Industries and Production Saif Anjum, Joint Secretary Freedoon Akram Sheikh, government officials, representatives of StarCharge, StarCharge Energy Pakistan and Bahum Global Ltd, members of the business community and other guests.
