LAHORE: Quaid-e-Azam Solar Power (Private) Limited (QASPL) has achieved a major financial milestone by presenting an interim dividend of Rs2 billion to the Government of Punjab for FY2026-27, marking a new benchmark for public-sector renewable energy projects in Pakistan.
The dividend underscores QASPL’s transformation from a power-generating entity into a profitable public-sector enterprise contributing directly to the provincial exchequer. The funds will be utilized for public welfare initiatives, development projects, and relief programs across Punjab.
Punjab Minister for Energy Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar described the achievement as a “historic milestone” for the Energy Department, crediting sound financial management and professional corporate governance for the company’s strong performance.
He said QASPL has emerged as a successful and financially sustainable public-sector company, demonstrating that transparency, merit, and efficient management can enable state-owned enterprises to generate significant returns.
During a meeting held on July 28, Energy Secretary Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti briefed the minister on the dividend payment. Khokhar congratulated Secretary Bhatti, QASPL Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Badar-ul-Munir, the Board of Directors, and the company’s management for their prudent financial stewardship and dedication.
The minister emphasized that subsidiaries of the Energy Department would continue to play a vital role in Punjab’s economic development, financial stability, and public welfare. He also directed all subsidiary companies to strengthen collaboration with private investors and accelerate investment in solar, wind, hydropower, and other renewable energy projects to enhance the province’s energy self-reliance.
Established in 2013, QASPL operates a 100MW solar power plant in Cholistan, Punjab. The project, commissioned in July 2015, was developed at a total cost of Rs15.13 billion, with 75% of the financing (Rs11.137 billion) provided through debt financing from the Bank of Punjab.
The latest dividend highlights QASPL’s growing financial strength and reinforces the potential of well-managed public-sector renewable energy projects to contribute both to clean energy generation and government revenues.
