HBL, Pakistan Cables, BCEM and OES Sign 7.5MW Wind Power Project

KARACHI: Habib Bank Limited (HBL), Burj Clean Energy Modaraba (BCEM), Pakistan Cables Limited and Orient Energy Systems (OES) have completed the financing and signing of agreements for a 7.5MW wind power project that will supply renewable energy to Pakistan Cables’ factory in Nooriabad, Sindh.

The project marks another step towards accelerating the adoption of renewable energy in Pakistan’s industrial sector, while helping businesses reduce energy costs, emissions and dependence on conventional power sources.

Under an Ijarah agreement, BCEM will develop, own and operate the wind power project as lessor, while Pakistan Cables will serve as the lessee. OES has been appointed as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor and will deploy turbine technology supplied by GOLDWIND.

HBL has provided financing for the project, supporting the development of dedicated renewable energy infrastructure for Pakistan Cables.

The project will contribute to Pakistan Cables’ climate and sustainability objectives while helping the company reduce exposure to conventional energy costs. With solar power already part of its energy mix, the addition of wind energy is expected to further reduce its reliance on non-renewable sources.

BCEM has previously developed a 7.5MW wind power plant for Power Cement Limited in Nooriabad, pioneering the use of wind power under lease-based arrangements for industrial customers in Pakistan. The latest project builds on the company’s experience in providing renewable energy solutions to the industrial sector.

As EPC contractor, OES will oversee the project’s engineering, procurement and construction activities. The company will leverage its experience in renewable energy projects across Pakistan, while its partnership with GOLDWIND will provide turbine technology, performance support and after-sales services.

Speaking on the occasion, Nadeem Lodhi, Chief Executive Officer of BCEM, said the company was pleased to partner with Pakistan Cables, describing it as a leading name in Pakistan’s engineering and cable manufacturing sector.

He said the project would enable Pakistan Cables to manage energy costs while advancing its environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives. He also thanked HBL for financing the project and OES for its execution capabilities and partnership with GOLDWIND.

Fahd K. Chinoy, Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Cables Limited, said the project represented an important milestone in the company’s energy transition strategy.

He noted that securing 7.5MW of dedicated wind power would reduce the company’s exposure to grid tariffs and fuel price volatility while providing a more stable and predictable electricity supply.

The project demonstrates how Pakistan’s industrial sector can combine cost efficiency, energy security and emissions reduction through long-term investment in renewable energy.
